Prototype Update: v0.0.8

Quality over quantity in this week's update - Prototype v0.0.8 is live!

In addition to some Itch.io page updates and some new card art tweaks to separate "common" and "rare" cards, the big change this week is the addition of a new game mode: Deck Builder (final name TBD).

  • In Deck Builder mode, you start with a "simple" deck containing just a few basic units and spells.
  • After each victory, you'll get to choose from 3 different cards to add to your "card reserve".
  • Between matches, you can edit your deck to swap cards out of your reserve and into your deck.
  • To make up for the relatively weaker deck you're playing with, difficulty ramps up more slowly in Deck Builder mode - 10% every 3 victories, versus 10% every victory.

Ultimately, the hope is for Deck Builder mode to be the primary way to play Jung, giving unique challenges that will make every Jung play session unique. We'll be extending Deck Builder mode in big ways in future updates, with shops, special events, and an overworld map. For now, though, we hope that Deck Builder mode provides a fun way to get more familiar with the basics of Jung and gradually ramp up the complexity and difficulty.

However, we also know that a lot of the fun of Jung in the early prototype phase is playing with all the cute creatures and spells! And having to play for an hour to hopefully pull that new card... isn't all the fun. To that end, we've also kept around Jung as it has existed up until this point, which we're calling Arcade mode. Arcade mode gives you full access to all the cards, with quickly ramping difficulty on successive wins, so you can jump in and play with all of the new bells and whistles.

For v0.0.9, we'll be looking to make some quality of life improvements to Jung, as well as addressing some weird rough edges / bugs with gameplay continuity. If we're extra productive, we might add in some new units and music as well, so be on the look-out!
